You asked where to hang the guardian bell since the tradition is unknown in France.  The very first time I saw a bell it was hanging directly between the front tree behind the wheel on a Harley Sportster, and I asked the owner "Hey?  What's this?"  After he gave the explanation ... especially of where "pot holes" in the road came from ... I just had to have one!

I hung my first bell directly on the handlebar right in the middle of my handlebars so I could see it and enjoy the ringing of it while I road down the road.  I put the next two bells on my key chains, (I have a separate key chain for each bike), so I would have the bell every time I rode.  A user here told me the "traditional" place to hang the bell is from the front right peg or floor board of the bike ... but that seemed "dumb" to me, for if you are leaning far into a turn as I often do on the windy roads here, the bell will be scraped or even torn off.

I noticed several riders had the bell hanging from their tool bag (if equipped with one) on the front of the bike at the rallies I go to.

Is it really important as to where to hang the bell?  Yes and no.  "Yes", because it's important to YOU since you're an individual rider with individual tastes ... so the best place to put it is where YOU think it will look best.  "No" because I've seen them hanging from virtually any part of the bike including off the end of a trike in the middle of the back end behind the wheels.

Someone said a person should polish the bell frequently to keep it nice and shiny, and when polishing it, you should take the opportunity to think about and dwell on our personal friends that may have lost their lives while riding.  He told me that the bell seems somehow shinier when he does this.

The important thing to remember though is the legend ... so when your fiend asks what the bell is for, you can tell them the story as my friend did for me when I noticed HIS guardian bell.

Find a good spot that you can see and enjoy the bell that suits you ... and ride often!

Sounds like you had a great time!!  I was thinking about you all day today!!!  I read on my facebook page that Kyle and Uwe made it to Switzerland by 1:00AM!!!!  I also sent you the pictures of you guys that Kyle took, twice, as the first ones the image was very small!! LOL!
 
It looked like you guys had so much fun and then to ride with them yet too!!  I sure wish I could have been there too!
 
I think we should plan this trip to the USA, we only live once right!?!!  So lets live it up!!!
 
Still no new parts for my baby and the weather has been fantastic!!  No rain, lots of sunshine and very little wind!!  Isn't that my luck?!  Wish I wasn't so scared of Barry's big bike or I would jump on it and take it for a spin!!  I don't think he would let me even if I wasn't scared!!
 
OK, I should go, almost bed time!!  I can't wait for my postcard!!!!  Thanks for thinking of me during your big day!!
